Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
goldenhour.city shows golden-hour and blue-hour times and sunset info for cities. It runs without accounts, logins, or tracking. This page explains, in plain terms, the little data that is involved and the outside services it relies on.
The short version
- No account, no login, no password — nothing to sign up for.
- No advertising, and no cookies are set by this site.
- One privacy-friendly analytics tool counts page views. It uses no cookies and cannot follow you across days or onto other websites.
- Times are computed from each city's coordinates, not from your location. The site does not ask for, or use, your GPS location.
- The only thing you can create here — a shareable plan link — stores just the city, spot, date, and time you picked. No personal details.
What the site does not collect
There are no user accounts, so there is no name, email, password, or profile on file. The site does not request your device's precise location. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser's local storage for tracking or advertising. There is no advertising code on the site. The one measurement tool it does run is described next, and it does not identify you.
Page-view analytics
The site uses Vercel Web Analyticsto count page views — which pages get visited, and which site referred you (for example, a search engine or a social link). This is how I can tell whether anyone is finding the site at all.
It is cookieless. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Instead of an identifier that follows you, visitors are counted using a hash derived from the incoming request, and that hash is reset every day — so the same person cannot be linked between one day and the next, and cannot be tracked from this site onto any other. The data is anonymized and aggregated; it contains no name, email, or account, and it is not used for advertising or sold to anyone.
The one thing you can create: a shareable plan
If you click "Share this plan," the site saves a small record — the city, the spot, the date, and the time you chose — and gives you a short link (like /p/ab12cd34) that anyone with the link can open. That record contains only the plan details listed above; it does not include your name, email, IP, or any personal identifier. Don't put personal information into a plan you intend to share. These records may be kept indefinitely so the links keep working, and may be removed periodically to save space.
Server logs
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like essentially every website, the host keeps standard, automatic server logs (for example, the IP address making a request and the page requested) to run and secure the service. These are handled by the host under its own policy; the site does not build profiles from them or use them for advertising. SeeVercel's Privacy Policy.
Third-party services the site calls
To produce times, spots, and the sunset score, the site's server makes requests to a few outside data sources. These run on the server side to build a page — your browser is not redirected to them, and no identifier about you is sent with these requests:
- US National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) — cloud-cover forecast used for the US sunset score.
- GeoNames — city names, coordinates, and time zones.
- Open-Meteo / GeoNames geocoding — resolves coordinates for cities beyond the built-in list.
- OpenStreetMap (Overpass) — nearby named viewpoints for the "where to stand" section.
See the attributions page for the data sources and their licenses.
Advertising and affiliate links
The site does not currently run ads or affiliate links. If that changes, this policy will be updated first to describe what those partners collect (ad networks may set their own cookies), and affiliate links will be clearly disclosed. Until you see that update, assume none are present.
Children
The site is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change with it. Material changes — especially turning on advertising or analytics — will be reflected here before they take effect.
